Do Not Resurrect

He turned 7 on his 8th birthday
No room for tears on his car shaped bed
He prayed for toys the night before
He could already smell the dead
His heart beat like a car crash
The smoke filled his lungs tight
The clock ticked like time bombs in his ears
His alarm blared with his deepest fears

And we'll all soon wake up one day
In the coffin of our own minds
The gruesome memories we save
All the bodies that we waste

The cake smelled like his uncles old cologne
The taste just like the sweat in his eyes
Not a face at the table he could recognize
The cheers drown out his cries
I propose a toast to the man of today
And the corpse of tomorrow
