A Hole

Everything is a pall,
A groaning weight pressing on his chest,
And it's too late to turn back now,
Already driving.
Coughing blood into his hand,
Every nerve is screaming for help,
Begging in the creeping darkness of a violent morning.

I am mourning you.

"A hole, a hole, is waiting for me."
(Another casualty)
"A ditch of sand where I will recede."
(Of life in the waste).
"A needle prick and then I'm gone."
(The end of innocence)
"Already lived for far too long."
(That never had a chance).

Dragging limbs; a ground splatter,
A grunt of effort and weight shifting
A hand placed on his feeble heart,
"Don't worry, I'm here.
I'm right here."
And losing focus in the retina is a sweet relief,
When the sun crests the early morning.

"A hole, a hole, is waiting for me."
(Another casualty)
"A ditch of sand where I will recede."
(Of life in the waste).
"A needle prick and then I'm gone"
(The end of innocence)
"Already lived for far too long."
(That never had a chance).

"A hole, a hole, bury me in this hole,
I'm not ever going to be okay,
Forget me, leave me here with me,
I'm done, I am so fucking done."

"Ready. I'm finally ready."

"A hole, a hole, bury me in this hole,
I'm not ever going to be okay,
Forget me, leave me here with me,
I'm done, I am so fucking done.
You have to live to live, there is no other choice,
For me, you stupid bastard.
For me, for me, and don't you dare look back."
I won't, but I will.
