Light to Dark

In the back of an old desk drawer
I found a lock of hair
Tucked away in folded paper
Don't know how long it's been there
Snipped away in an old haircut
Just a single blondish curl
Saved for decades as a keepsake
Of when I was just a girl

The hair is lighter and much brighter
Like I was when I was two
Though the years have made me darker
These bits of silver now shine through

Light to dark and light again
Light to dark and light again
Light to dark and light again

Seems a strange thing to hold on to
Just a simple souvenir
To remind me of a time when
Life was free and without fear
Before darkness crept up on me
Snuffed the flames out one by one
Left me blind to all my instincts
I couldn't walk
Nowhere to run

Light to dark and light again
Light to dark and light again
Light to dark and light again
Light to dark
I'm light again

Back when I was full of lightness
Oh it seems so long ago
But I will find my happy ending
I know somehow I will grow

Light to dark and light again (I'm light again)
Light to dark and light again (I'm light again)
Light to dark and light again (I'm light again)
Light to dark
I'm light again
