An Elegiac Piece

(Right look)

At a fathomless depth
That is ever obscure
Intrepidly I step
As I get closer near
The blank oblivion
Of sempiternal space
Whereat stygian
Far beyond the gate
Of gothic countenance
I advance toward
Where had downward went
As a sepulcher
Giant rocks were rent
And the thunder pealed
From a cauldron high
Only woe no weal
But indulge I must
Melancholy muse
In thy languid lust
As doth circumfuse
Round my feeble frame
Some opiate dew
From the poppy wreathe
Of the deity that flew
Opened janus-faced
The sepulchral bars
Of this chthonic place
Where dark poking spars
Stuck out everywhere
Of the cavern wall
Looming dismally
As it were engulfing
All the dampen scene
I was now apart
Of this underworld
Where nowhere to be seen
By any mortal eye
But I live to tell
From beyond the grave
Of my infernal spell

All which that you do unseen (Ay)
Works in such a wondrous way (Oh)
Beyond e'en what they believe (Ah)
I forgot I was on my own
