My Grandpa
He don't say much about nothing except when he's got something to say
But he knows, in the end, what he thinks don't matter anyway
He ain't much for going or talking in the phone
If he gets his way, he'll sit there, in his chair at home
He's an old man
But he's my best friend
He's my grandpa
He's got an 8th grade education but he's an educated man
He knows all about the hard times and working with his hands
'Cause he worked on cars for a living When he got home from the war
He threw away his uniforms because he didn't want them anymore
He's a hard man
But he's my best friend
He's my grandpa
He turned eighty-eight last summer and he still mows his lawn
Somebody else could do it but he thinks it keeps him young
He used to drive out to Powhatten,
where he'd drink enough to drown
Yeah, He was rowdy in his younger days
Thank God he settled down
He likes them old Clint Eastwood movies 'cause he's tough old SOB
Growing up, everybody used to say they saw a lot of him in me
How could I not be just like him
Even if it weren't for the last name
We spent all our time together, yeah, me and him we're one in the same
He's a good man
A do-it-like-you-should man
He's my best friend
He's my grandpa
Yeah, he's my grandpa
But he knows, in the end, what he thinks don't matter anyway
He ain't much for going or talking in the phone
If he gets his way, he'll sit there, in his chair at home
He's an old man
But he's my best friend
He's my grandpa
