One November Weekend

We laughed until it was painful
And kissed like nothing had changed
The air was warm for November
I noticed that as I caught your gaze

We both knew where this was going
And made sure we stopped to say

We know this can't go past the weekend
As for tonight maybe let's just pretend
That the way we feel in this moment
Is all that matters
And the future is all pretend

My bones ache as if I was older
That feeling subsequent to making amends
Blissful reconciliation followed by your imagination
Urging you to want more than you can take

We both knew where this was going
And made sure we stopped to say

We know this can't go past the weekend
As for tonight maybe let's just pretend
That the way we feel in this moment
Is all that matters
And the future is all pretend

I'm glad we got to share those moments
Even if they amount to nothing in the end
All we have is the present
What comes after is nothing more than a plan

We knew it couldn't go past the weekend
Either way we chose to just play pretend
That the way we felt in those moments
Was all that mattered
And everything will work out in the end
