Blades of Grass

I'm not feeling strong, not feeling like myself
The ground is shaking and I don't know how
I can move along when all I feel is numb
Even pain might break me from this hell
And I might cry out like the wind howling through the night
As I lie, I'll watch the stars as they pass by

I know I'm like the grass, it bends, it grows, it breaks, it dies
It's truth, it knows, its time is gone, so it soaks up the sun
Then winter comes, it kills, it's cold, the sun is gone, it's swallowed whole
But blades of grass stand tall in the spring

And though I'm raw, breakable and tired
I'm still here like the changing moon
I endure so my child's eyes can see the lush pastures of green
And I might cry out like the wind howling through the night
As I lie, I'll watch the stars as they pass by

And know I am, I am
And know I am, I am
