The Outer Space Song

Hundreds of colonists volunteered to sail through space
They slept in stasis while the autopilot landed them in this place
The scout reported that the air was good
The land was beautiful, the sun shone strong
Although there were some indications
That something may have gone wrong
Because the sun is shining; but there be just one
And it should be round
I suggest we engage the distress beacon
And then just hunker down
The ship broke up on contact
Anyhow, we were short on fuel
We have got supplies
We can live a few months on gruel
We should plant some seeds
And see what grows in this strange blue soil
See if any microbes live in the water
And, if so, set some to boil
There is plenty of local fauna
Trees and leaves should do the trick
Looks like some kind of storm is brewing
We need to build some shelters quick

One day an explorer rushed into town after prancing about
Said "There's a bunch of things beyond that ridge
And I think they were checking us out"
They have thirteen eyes and long, sharp teeth
I think they were carrying spears
If we could build some better weapons
We might just last a few more years
They were still waiting for the rescue ship to come
They killed the aliens and tried eating some
They cooked and ate them beneath an alien sun
After generations, they have adapted to the land
Populations grew and brand new settlements were planned
They ate the rescuers when they tried to land
