Cthulhu Waits Dreaming

In the dark I whisper, beckon
In ancient tongues I slither up your spine
Into mortal, midnight minds
I extend my crooked tentacles and claim you as my own

They marred their maps in the wake of my wanderings
I scarred the backs of the waves in my way

Your oldest feeling is fear
The clouded, the shrouded, unclear
Yet it's the light you revere
The false sense of control that you hold dear

Minuscule and pathetic, you answer my call
You'll come to learn that you'd be more fortunate not to exist at all

Their souls I consumed in the churning and brine
'Til no semblance of sailor remained left to find
Only by my command may you return to dust

Swallowed by my infinite waters, but you shall not yet drown

To behold my dread kingdom is a fate beyond death
Enough to make a man yearn for the dark, icy depths
For that is not dead which can eternal lie
And with strange aeons even death may die

I am the changeless thing that lurks behind superficial impermanence

If you've gone mad, it is mercy
May the gods pity the callous who remains sane until the hideous end
Born on a placid island of ignorance, but never meant to stray far
Such a small life, obliviously cursed
For we, the abominations, were here first

Into the blackness you'll be plunged
Unborn, unmade, undone
Without our guidance you would remain worthless
Surrender, give in, embrace your true purpose
We old ones slumber but have use for you yet
A vitriolic vessel, our dark instrument
Malicious, malleable, obedient
A manifestation of our eldritch intent

I've seen the dark universe yawning, where the black planets roll without aim
In their horror unheeded, Without knowledge, or lustre, or name
The more your primitive mind comes to understand
The more inescapable the knowledge that you are damned

Prepare to perceive the great opening of your reality
Too late to go mad from revelation or flee the repugnant light
