Golden Spoon

When I get to your house you're on Saturn
You've already decided to escape
One soft boiled egg and a glass of fernet
In your yard half in the sun half in the shade

Your face looks like a black and white cookie
When the light cuts you right down the middle of your nose
I know how it feels to be half of something
And half of something else that you're not even sure you know

Golden spoon
Sitting in your hand
I never watch while you
Disappear, I understand
How it feels to be right where you belong
The buildings and the trees are there
But your eyes are gone

Lying on the floor with you reminds me of when
Your father drove us down to the lake
The wood is full of holes like the one in his boat
You're too high like the dock in the rain

Your eyes roll back like your mind started running
And I'm not even drunk enough to meet you partway
They say that love is a symptom of something
And we love all we can until that thing goes away

Golden spoon
Sitting in your hand
I never watch while you
Disappear, I understand
How it feels to be right where you belong
The buildings and the trees are there
But your eyes are gone
