Slow

I live on the coast but I can't see the ocean
I keep to myself most of the time
I try when I can to slow it all down
Slow like a starfish
Slow like the cedar tree grows
And I try not to worry about the answers I may have got wrong

I live in a house with a big empty barn
It used to hold cows but not for a while now
I sing some of my songs there to slow myself down
Slow like a fool
Slow like forgiveness
I try to fill in the blanks where its clear that something needs to go

A long time goes quickly
Not really that long at all
It doesn't take much to realize
No matter how fast we run we still run out of time

I inhabit this rock surrounded by matter
I keep to myself most of the time
And watch all the stars that are moving around
Slow like a candle
Slow like the darkness
I realize it's something at least to know what I can't understand

A long time goes quickly
Not really that long at all
It doesn't take much to realize
No matter how fast we run we still run out of time
