Ours
There is something I have known ever since I was young is
I'll never catch what I'm hunting for
They'll run about like jackrabbits conspiring in the meadow chanting their curses
As I in wolves wardrobe prepare the attack
From the bushes I strike with my lumberjack axe
Little did I know they'd attack right back
Disarmed and to my surprise, it's a mountain lion in disguise
How did this come about
An arrow in my heart and an apple in my mouth
Can I call it Ours this time
Even if something doesn't feel right
By the lions teeth I am dragged to its den
A fresh wood home with a cauldron in the center
And as I'm placed into hot water I politely ask what they are cooking for dinner
The Lion extends its claws into my chest
Claiming that my heart is what will taste best
I gasp and tip the cauldron over spilling its contents to the floor
The Lion roars as I dart for the door I unlatch the lock and run to the forest
I finally feel like I am free
I look behind and the lions chasing after me
I should've just stayed in my cave
And succumb to these hunger pains
Can I call it Ours this time
Or do I have to keep it quiet
I run through the forest as fast as I can
But the Lions too quick I can't outrun them
I dodge into the meadow and see the Rabbits in a circle
I plead for assistance for my life is in danger
The Rabbits surround me and they pull out their knives
Turns out they want a sacrifice
The Lion arrives heels overhead
Without hesitation
I am cursed
And vexed
And hexed
And sacrificed
And ripped apart
And torn to shreds
And left for dead
Can I call it Ours this time
I'll hold onto it until I die
But every time I call something mine
It's taken away by
The Lions teeth that dig into me
The Rabbits knives that carve out my eyes
The blood in my throat from my heart that broke
My own desire that affection awoke
Be careful what you wish for
It might just want you a little bit more
My remains are discarded
They travel along
I dissolve in the forest that they still hunt
What's Ours is Ours and affection is mine
But I can't even call it Ours this time
There is something I have known, ever since I was young
is I'll never
I'll never catch what I'm hunting for
They'll run about like jackrabbits conspiring in the meadow chanting their curses
As I in wolves wardrobe prepare the attack
From the bushes I strike with my lumberjack axe
Little did I know they'd attack right back
