Salt Pillar

Now I am one with the heat
Desert shadows my only rest
The hag raises her withered arm
To bring down the ax

With a snarl of wrath
I pull myself along the earth
Barely standing, I bring my blade
To her occultist skull

Blood vanishes into salt
The ground beneath me splits
Fire, stone, unholy wails
Churning slowly into reality

The buzzards no longer scavenge
A pillar rises from the chasm
The salt the only memento
Held in my hand, falling

Have I witnessed reality
The Salt Witch will follow me forever

Trudging back to the weeping water
To cleanse myself of heat and blood
Unholy whispers seep inside me
The pillar calls my name again

I am doomed to return
Doomed to face the witch
Doomed to curse them all with salt
She must be kept beneath
