Requiem
I knew a girl from the same hood as me
But we couldn't be more separate in identity DNA and deity
She policed her policies so strictly
Mental offense created her defenses
She built up fences fertilized weeds with toxin springs
That sprung sunken songs in springtime and shrunk her heart
She had the nerve in system to think we are from the same bark
Our fruit runs different
Her nervous system signals sensory triggers
She can bite like shark
Shout like swine and grind her teeth that are stained with wine
She sips to suppress her mind and hides behind her culture
Which for her became a disguised vulture
Culture is a beautiful thing
An expressive seed that flowers gardens indeed
But she
Masquerades in the grave and decorates her face to erase the pain
It's an abrasive thing
That began when she was seven some children condemned your confidence
Never would compliment just comment on how her accent is
They teased her heritage
She wasn't white enough but what engulfed her was
Her grandma said she wasn't Mexican
She felt like an accident
And actually became an actively involved advocate
At obtaining adequate Latin artifacts
But the fact is the more she learned the more reactive her traps
She started to react
To friends that didn't' feel the same need to protect where they came from
And for that fact
It distilled her compassion and patterned her loneliness
Lonelier than ever before
The chip on her shoulder had chipped away her security
Tostada salsa has exhausted her
Too much heat
So she's a defeated instrument
That tuned its speech
To become exactly like those kids
A cultural racist
But we couldn't be more separate in identity DNA and deity
She policed her policies so strictly
Mental offense created her defenses
