The River

I felt Love carry me down to the river
And hope led my feet to the shore
Death tried to drown me down deep underwater
But life's hands were stronger and sure
And I felt joy lift my heart to the heavens
Where glory stands adored
And there I heard truth say your sins are forgiven
And grace told me sin,
Grace told me sin no more

I was the servant and sin was the master
The grave held the key to my chains
And I was deserving of death and disaster
And I knew no way to be saved
But the king of the risen, He came to my prison
He called me to come by my name
He carried me out on a back torn and broken
And down by the river
He washed all of my darkness away

When finally my road through the desert is over
And ends on that ultimate shore
I'm leaving my load in the ford of the Jordan
And washing my sins till I'm pure
Then I'll hear my name and I'll cross into Caanan
Where Jesus has traveled before
For feet do not falter that follow the Father
That been through the water, that
Death cannot kill anymore
