A Peculiar Shade of Blue

I'm sleeping less these days, I think I'm more afraid
Of the spaces in between the golden haze
The anger and the pain both come back in different ways
I can feel it in my hands and in my face

And sometimes late at night, I'd wake up with a fright
And hear a solemn sound come from outside
And when I turn around it's always you that made the sound
The footprints on the ground bathed in moonlight

So I follow close down a newly graveled road
To a clearing that I have never known
And every time I'm here, I'm reminded of the fear
That this time I'll walk home alone

The feeling leaves with the moon as the day begins anew
Your hand is real in mine, I know that's true
Then I wake with a start, far away from where you are
And the night sky is a peculiar shade of blue
