Murmurations

Do you want to go for a walk
To the burial mound on the hillside?
That indecipherable castle in the air
Where I saw a pair of ravens
They're bigger'n they've any right to be
I mistook them for people
'Tilthey soared over the headland
Tell me you have these thoughts too
'Just let the wheel go and miss the corner
Plunge headlong into the Atlantic'
Like some ugly old diving bird
Made of metal and screaming
And the water moans and boils as it turns to blood

While on a hotel tv screen
Neil Oliver's exposing
Every sordid detail of Mary, Queen of Scots
And her tragic fall from grace
Can you believe they used to dress like that?
Seems so impractical; so burdensome
But I bet you know what that feels like
Bearing the crosses of a martyr
Will you still want me here if you no longer need me around?
Will you taste the salt in my mouth
Do CPR as they drag me out?
While the car alarms in harmonies sound like sirens

Or will you just walk idly by
As I'm washed away in the tide?
Let our murmurations fade to grey
