The Killing Joke

Paddles off the table Scalpel in a surgeons hand
Cut into the body of what was once a lifeless a man
Organs repaired quickly vitals coming back again
Words of relief come swiftly - you'll be with your family once again
All of this if just one word had

Changed my mind I want to go back and try I thought this is what you'd want
Every day that passes
I think how different our lives would be if I tried to just just save you

Coming home the next day you'd probably curse at your wheel chair
Could of seen the wedding I know you wanted to be there
Could of seen your grandkids tell them all your story tales
You'd never have to see mom cry a loss I could not repair
All of this comes with a price

I swear I thought I did the right thing for once
Please tell me that if I was wrong
With every breathe that I steal I can't help the guilt that I feel
It swells inside I play it over in my mind a million times

The smiles the laughter all the jokes I tell hereafter
Just my way to deal with the pain I carry every day
Its painful I miss you the hardest thing Ive ever been through
It feels so good to finally tell you
