The Bear

My body is a marvel
That's out of shape and decaying
Puppet master of my own skeleton
Pulling tendon strings
With random whims
That I call dancing
There's romance in
Vegetable planting and
Decorating interiors
Just don't call them my lost years
It's accumulation
Layer upon tight packed layer
Back at Sayers bakery
I remember what you said to me

It cut and hurt deep
It cut and hurt deep
It cut and hurt deep
It cut and hurt deep

The cat's got a new friend
Hanging out where the street ends
Embarrassed when he sees me
Sneezes and comes home
Tentatively
Dragging his tail
Layer upon layer
Got led to breakfast
Skipping
Behind a giant bear
Excruciation in the corridor
Petrified in the lobby
Cold toast, frozen butter
Poor guy sweating in the costume
Individual wheat biscuits, all wrapped up in plastic
Burnt my knee on the carpet
Misjudged slide tackle
Missed target

It cut and hurt deep
It cut and hurt deep
It cut and hurt deep
It cut and hurt deep
