Growing Pains

I'm driving away
To fields of green
Wide open skies
Hand out my window
Heat turned on
It's still cold outside
Can't seem to remember
What spring felt like
Even though it rained for days
It never kept me inside
Precious memories
All fade with time
Runny noses, itchy eyes
The salmon swims before it dies

We swim upstream
We can't gain speed
It drowns our dreams
We kick and scream
We can't find peace
So we grab our keys and we drive away

I pulled up next to
The river bed
I waded out real deep
The weathered stones
And white capped edges
Scuffed and kissed my feet
I'm breathing in
And stepping back
I can finally see
The vapor rainbow
The budding trees
It's not a ghost of washed out dreams
The gentle falls are just downstream
