Ghost of Vanquished Love (feat. Celia Bond) [Spoken Word over instrumental]

In my more selfish moments I still drift back
And re-enter the prison of my memory
The gates swing open
The guards step away

Here I recite my truth without ever being truthful
As intoxicating as poetry of the homeland to an exile
I feel again obsession and passion
And loneliness and despair

Like a suitor with misted eyes
I gaze upon the ghosts of vanished lovers
As they dance away time in their endless embrace
And there the spectre of her love still haunts

That she she should love me was a wonder
That she should cease to care was horror
And so like the ruin of an ancient castle
Our enchanted dream everywhere crumbled

The heart waiting to be broken was mine
It was mine to give and I gave it freely
It was hers to break and she broke it
Easily

With an affection for animosity
And daggers drawn arguments
She recorded my faults
And recounted my shortcomings

The red lag was hoisted
No quarter was given
And so I exempt myself from the tournament of love
Now sanctuary and solace are all that I seek

And yet
In my more selfish moments
My mind drifts over the dark mountains of hurt
To the land of what might have been

The prison gates swing open
The guards welcome me home
The ghost of vanquished love
