What’s Your Country Song - Commentary
Definitely has a vibe of like 16 and life changes
Thomas kind of reflecting on the phases of his life
But I gotta tell you, it sounds so good hearing him singing over a steel guitar
And on some of the other songs, dobro and fiddle
He really has come back to his country roots a lot
In the music that you're gonna hear
On his album "Country Again (Side A)"
Which is available now wherever you get your music
And I think people are familiar with this next song
'Cause it was already a number one hit for you
But go ahead and tell people about
"What's Your Country Song?" and writing this one
"What's Your Country Song" was written in a hotel room in Dallas, and um
This was on the VHS tour in 2019, we wrote this, and
The whole idea kinda stemmed from
Everybody's got some country inside of 'em somewhere
And I feel like I kinda got that idea from travelling across the country
Or even being in Australia and Europe or in Canada
And it, and it kind of reminded me of how
No matter what big city you live in, or whether you live way out
Everybody's got that feeling of just kinda wanting to get outside in their bones
And wanting to live somewhat of a simple lifestyle
And so, "Where's your country?" or "What's your country?"
Kinda formed into "What's Your Country Song?"
And we took a lot of my favorite country songs
From the late '80s and the '90s, the 2000s into now
And kinda crafted 'em into a storyline and the verses
And then made this very broad range chorus
That kinda just like everybody's got that one song in their life
That can just take them back to a moment
Or that song that they can go back to and be like
"Man, I remember that was the song
That I used to play when I got my first truck"
Or "That was the song that I used to play before I'd
Walk out on the field before a football game"
Or "That song makes me sad because I remember
That's what me and my ex-girlfriend listened to
When she broke up with me when I was 18 years old"
Or whatever, and so that was a really fun song to write
I knew we had something special when we finished it
Based on the fact that it was a number one song, I'd say you're right
And it's probably not gonna be the last number one song off this album
'Cause there are so many good ones on here
But you will find this on "Country Again, Side A"
