Campfire in Our Hearts

Oh it hasn't rained in weeks
The forecast is looking bleak
And the clouds on the horizon are just pale white streaks
And the grass is gettin' drier than those stale saltines
We've been eatin' from the pantry cuz our tomatoes are still green
And Smokey the Bear is working overtime
Spreading word about the fire bans and excessive fines

Because a fire in dry woods
Could quickly turn no good
And those green hillsides are worth more s'mores than we could buy
And though we lack the use of flame
This feeling stays the same
It's a love that has no name
Of mother earth and wild things and that's why
Oh tonight that's why
We'll build a campfire in our hearts

Oh it's getting pretty dark
I sure wish I had a spark
I'm not sure about the forest in this unfamiliar park
And the breeze is mighty chilly on my sunburned arms
Would be nice to have a campfire here to keep us toasty warm
But the crunchy leaves remind me that the forest isn't well
And although a roaring campfire's pretty swell

A fire in dry woods
Could quickly turn no good
And those green hillsides are worth more s'mores than we could buy
But I'll take that warm familiar glow
Wherever I may go
And I'll forever know
I've got a campfire in my heart

And if this fire spreads
There's no need to fill with dread
Don't put it out instead
Feel the warmth and love of friends

So leave your matches, leave your trees
Grab your friends and family
Everybody's got a part
We're gonna build a fire
A warm and friendly campfire
Never put out that campfire in your heart
