The Unicorn

A long time ago
When the earth was green
There were more kinds of animals
Than you'd ever seen
They'd run around free
While the world was being born
But the loveliest of them all
Was the unicorn

There were green alligators
And long-necked geese
Humpty-backed camels
And chimpanzees
Cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born
The loveliest of them all
Was the unicorn

But the Lord seen some sinnin' and it caused Him pain.
And He said, "Stand back, I'm gonnal make it rain!"
He said, "Hey, Brother Noah, I'll tell you what to do,
Go build me a floating zoo,"

"and take some of them"...
Green alligators
And long-necked geese
Humpty-backed camels
And chimpanzees
Cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born
Don't you forget my unicorn

Now Noah was there
And he answer the calling
He finished the ark
Just the rain started falling
They marched in the animals two by two
And they sang out as they went through
Hey Lord

I've got green alligators
And long-necked geese
Humpty-backed camels
And chimpanzees
Cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born
I just can't see no unicorn

Then Noah looked out
Through the driving rain
But the unicorns was hiding
Playin' silly games
Kickin' and splashin'
While the rain was pouring
Oh, them foolish unicorns

Then the ark started moving, and it drifted with the tide,
And the unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried.
And the water came up and sort of flooded them away,
And that's why you never seen a unicorn to this very day.

But you'll see
Green alligators
And long-necked geese
Humpty-backed camels
And chimpanzees
Cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born
The loveliest of all
Was the unicorn.
