Indicator Species

Walking through Victoria Park
Some show off was singing really loud
I thought "there's no real need for that, because there's so many people out"

Like a hierophant
Of self appointment
My eyes open only
To my requirements

Like that journey we were driving down the motorway
As we sped past a broken down large family
You said "Put on a different glove box CD"
I'm a classic backseat driver
So how could I deny you my expertise?

One sunny day on morning lane
I was almost mugged right in the street
I ran straight into the traffic
My fear followed by my feet

Do I regret my haste that day
On morning lane?
Like an indicator species
I gave it all away

If beauty is the harvest of our presence in time
Then I'm scrubbing the steps of the convent tonight
And I'm filming the chaos in an Apple store fight
Then maybe I'm Scorcese
In my own strange fantasy
I've arrived
