Something More Than Me

The trees are stenciled in black on the horizon
The rain is falling like something's inside it
All of my thoughts are bathed in violet
The haze of what I thought I knew before
There's thunder coming at the end of December when I thought the storm had passed
But something more than rain is falling and it's slipping through the cracks

I put all the pennies for my thoughts inside my purse
I've got all the bandaids but I can't find where it hurts
It's all well, It's all good- I've been doing the things that I should be doing
But something more than me is here

The year is finally ending
It's sealed the letters that it's sending home
The tree of life is bending
Into something I've always known
Mother Mary and Mother Earth are both painted thin as glass
I've got something more than questions forming and I don't know who to ask

I write poetry every Monday, I should know this verse by verse
I've danced with angels and I've danced with the devil and I don't know which is worse
It's all fair, and it's all fine- and I can categorize it in my mind
But something more than me is here

I watch the sunrise in her glory
In the same spot every morning
The rays of light exploring
all the spaces in between

All the artists in all the earth will marvel at the sight
There's something more than beauty out there, and it's touching me tonight

I'll follow the path until it levels out in green
I'll write down all the wonders that won't fit on a TV screen
This is life, This is love
We're just gathering moments till we've got enough
Something more than me is here
And I kinda like the Something More Than Me that's here
