Concrete After Rain

Swallow
But forget to chew
Limbs and matter
Soon to subdue

Time moves as slowly
Across leafless terrain
As walking backwards
On concrete after rain

So the paint dries
And your eyes stick
My molasses mind
Refuses to creak

Mend and shape
Mould and construct
Accepting defeat
Against decaying crop

The nights grew longer
And the days grew shorter
I learnt to swim
And left you in the water
