The Gardener

There's a blessing I feel in this forest
It's in the downpour you hear before the fall
There's every chance that I'll wander here
In this wilderness for years
Drenched to the bone and reliving all our claims

The look on your face across the fire
Was like a bear hiding deep within a cave
And the burn from your bonfire heart
A lesson I only needed once
The music in our song somehow disappeared

And our roots stretch deep all the way to hell
While our branches dance glad in the rain
Random directs our river's course
It might change slow if at all
And come to flood and spill the plains again

Bliss needs a mighty sacrifice
But all I do is walk barefoot in this wood
I might seem a little unwashed
But I am strong and keen
And I find now I can see clearly through these trees

And my feet walk soft upon the earth
Now hope gave a treasure for a stake
While I wander the afternoon air rises so high
Floating laterns in the sky
Planting the ground ahead of where you and I could have laid
