Billy

Billy sits and counts up
All the daisies on the lawn
Counts them up to thirty
That's the biggest that he knows

He wonders why she's crying
When she's got such pretty eyes
And if he could
He'd make her smile
With one of his silly jokes

Billy sees the seaside
Licks an ice cream on the beach
An old man has a sad face
Missing friends from his youth

Billy sees the sunshine
And he smiles at the gulls
Who weave their weary dance
Through the breezes up above

Billy sees what's there
Not tomorrow
Not yesterday
He's living in the moment before it slips away

He can dream when gets home
Watch the car lights on the wall
And he'll sleep in the safety
Not troubled by life's woes
