Northern Lights

You showed me meditation
Said, "It'd change me"
I thought I needed to
'Cause your mum said I had growing up to do

In April, I walked your way
I left my friends behind
'Cause I didn't think you liked them
And it was cute that kids love you

Bye bye and by next July
My therapist will say I'm fine
I'll go to see the Northern lights
If I combine the flights it's cheaper that way
I'll walk around New York rain
And no one will ever break me down again

On show days it showed me quaking
I fumbled words I lost my place
And I was waiting
For someone to see straight through

In every conversation
I said, "I missed my friends"
What a normal thing
You said I'd learn to be alone like you

Bye bye and by next July
My therapist will say I'm fine
I'll go to see the Northern lights

Then I was standing with glue and tape
I was panicking, my colour had been changed
A thousand drops of paint you dripped
Didn't know you did, you didn't know

You've been calling my mum, what did you say?
I think you needed control to ease your brain
I didn't get it 'til I walked away
Because you made me breakfast, you cheered my name

I kept thinking of polar sunshine
To keep my wonder, but something was wrong
A battle had come and all the horses
And everyone was gone

I wiggled my way I put back the pieces
My friends, I'm sorry for the moments I missed
I've painted over the glue and the tape
