Those cattails grew so high in the backyard
All the way to the stream
Catching tadpoles with Dad on Sundays
We made such a good team

We'd take them to the barn, find some water
Watch 'em grow
But as soon as they got big we lost them
They'd just hop right out of that bowl

I was 15 that day in the kitchen
I could see it on his face
Dad said Mom just told him
That she got her own place

Can't imagine what that felt like
