Lingering Gaze

Her words mean so much and so little
But I bask in them nonetheless
I cannot say what I should do
But it's better than my best guess

All that it takes is a moment
A single word to be said
And I can't help but wonder
While I'm awake in my bed

The whole wide world is in color
But I see brown and green
I cannot say what happened to my eyes
That I see so differently

And years pass by in a heartbeat
And time, it slips by my mind
And sooner or later I'll be trembling
I'm a rock thrown into a fire

And I burn up I blow up, I'm wasted away
And I can't avert my lingering gaze
And her hands in my hands take me away
And I know now that you are in my headspace

And my heart has fallen into a trance
She holds my heart in the palm of her hand
And she cares for it like it's my last chance
She gives herself so freely

I am walking with her
In the end of the time
Maybe we have 40 years left
But a moment is fine
