City (A Capella)

Left alone in unfriendly city
No anxious but me
To take life by the horns
And not to resent
The sins of mother and father and son
I laugh alone with guitar in hand
And hope that
Maybe tomorrow I can find some like minded friends

I stare outside at the
Ever cooking season and drink some liquids
Warmer than my insides
Warming my insides
And numbing the cold that an outsider feels
Just before the silence is broken

Left alone in unfriendly city
Everyone with a smile on their face
But fear in their eyes
That someone might ask a question
Talk for awhile
I wonder when this global village
Will act more like one
And people will want to know the person
And not just their business

Soles on pavement
Souls in limbo
Afraid to take that first step
And wonder why boy acts like girl
Girl like boy
Someone straighten out this mystery before us

Left alone in unfriendly city
No one cares to know my name
Or why I stalk the streets solo
And why I must block my ears
From inane lies
That they tell each other when passing in aisles
And why sometimes alone is better
Than trying to be like everybody else
