The Deep

The rocky cliff looms high
Against the darkened sky
The wind it burns my skin
I pull my collar in
The rain is beating down
I need to learn to swim
I see so clearly now
The deep in sleep it presses in

We won't stay young forever
We wander alone into the deep

A question spied on the horizon
An answer writ in bone and stone
Our feats reprised in falling
Particles through narrow holes
And with these grains of sand
Often lost amongst the hordes
We build our sand castle
And wait upon a crumbling throne

We won't stay young forever
We wander alone into the deep
We won't stay young forever
We wander alone into the deep

Reality sets in
And so we try to mold this sand
Resembling those dreams we had

We are sand
Crumbling emotions
We are dirt
Trying to maintain composure
We are mud
That tracks on feet and ruins carpets
We are rocks
Thrown into ponds and nestled in weeds
And we will never be our dreams
As long as we keep waiting for the deep
Waiting for the deep
Waiting for the Deep
Waiting for the Deep

We won't stay young forever
We wander alone into the deep
We won't stay young forever
