i'll take the lake

Past full of heartache and darkness I thought no one would ever see
A heart full of one little boy who meant the world to me
So I picked him up, grabbed my stuff, and made sure to graduate early
Everything was going as planned until you stumbled into me

I've been afraid to fall in love again because it always ends in grief
And this ocean of heartache pulls me underneath my feet
I've had all the sadness I can take
But when fell into my arms you slammed my heart awake
And I love the ocean but darling I'll take the lake

Nobody said it would be easy and
I wondered if you'd move on without me
You'd found every word for "mean" starting with A and going to Z
I'll never stop loving you baby
And you may not know it but you saved me
And I know you're my family now and everything will workout somehow

We've lost so much and it scares me to know you could've be gone
But you're my poetry, you are my song
And forever will never ever be too long
There's no retreat I fell head over feet and darling you are my fate
So you keep your ocean and honey I'll take the lake

Cause love this beautiful, this love is painful but it's ours
The hardest thing to hold onto, the easiest thing to throw away
But my Lake, I'm here to butterflying stay
