The Story of Hazel and Hajalmer

Here's a little ditty 'bout Hazel and Hajalmer
In a story that was once told to me
In Bremerton, Washington they met by chance
A saturday night at the local barn dance

Well Hajalmer came a dancing in his new Sunday best
He caught the eye of Hazel in her new store bought dress
And they were dancing and spooning to their favorite tune
While the band played "Harvest Moon"

The rumor was that Hajalmer drove a rumble seat Ford
He parked it by the side of that barn
Where he sold his moonshine for a buck and a half
Hazel never knew where Hajalmer got all his cash

The law got wind that Hajalmer was a running a still
The back of his house at the top of the hill
The policeman came and broke it up, took him to jail
Where Hazel came and posted his bail

Well Hazel and Hajalmer got married that year
At the church of the episcopal pine
Hajalmer gave up moonshine to work hard as he could
As a Weyerhaeuser lumber jack chopping down wood

Well Hazel had three daughters and one begat me
So I could sing a song about their history
I'm dancing and grinning now that everyone knows
The story 'bout Hazel and Hajalmer
That's the story about Hazel and Hajalmer
