Lost Years

Back in Newtown when we all were young
It didn't take too much to have some fun
Light a fire, light a joint or light a firecracker
All those months and years they flew on by
It didn't take too much to occupy
Ourselves in any house or corner where we would gather

Then all the years we spent playing guitar
Playing cover tunes in smoky bars
Dreamed of playing our own tunes, but never turned that corner
Instead we went to school and got real jobs
And every day fought through the teeming mob
Make some money, pay some bills, repeat over and over and over

All our time seemed so slow, days would never end, we had time to do nothing
Didn't realize how good, man, we had a blast
And the days flew on by, months and years raced past in what seemed no time at all
Like the grains of sand in an hourglass

Then the year of the virus came
Every day seemed like it was the same
Stuck at home, day and night, watch TV, get fatter
Wearing masks when we did go out
So many people had to do without
Lost their jobs, lost their homes, lost the things that matter

All the days seemed so slow, days would never end, we had time to do nothing
But this time, it just didn't feel like fun
It's different when, doing nothing's not a choice, but it's all that you can do
In the end yet another lost year has run
