Common Species

filthy insects scuttle in pitch black, tireless
erecting temples of wisdom reversed
gnawing caverns through the folds of the soul through ventricles and veins
parasitic spawn devoted servants first as pupae ingested inhaled in through the eyes the ears squirming in the mouth
swallowed into the depths
growing in successive waves
their common species: lust, anger, foul deception, the scourge of the averted eye
in weakness, in blindness, and in slumber, i am rightly devoured
their bites leave not welts upon the skin but scars upon the soul
my task, to bring down into their masses white flame
a salve for ancient wounds, and render them to naught
