Blanket of Ash

An unsuspecting city, ignorance is bliss
Life goes on as normal but something is amiss
Vesuvius has awakened, the volcano explodes
Gods have no mercy, the falling black snow
Day turns to night, and the sun turns to dust
Into sudden death, many thousands are thrust
Heat waves and magma destroy all in its path
The city tucked into a blanket of ash
Necropolis preserved in a blanket of ash
Mummified bodies tucked into soot
Layered in the dust, frozen in time
Laid to rest in their cinder coffins
Necropolis preserved in a blanket of ash
Necropolis preserved in a blanket of... ash!
All hell unleashed, deadly downpour of fire
Chaos rampant, Vesuvius doesn't tire
From the volcano, a pillar reaching high
A mushroom cloud standing tall, blocks the sun from the sky
Many try to flee but cannot escape their fate
The wrath of Vesuvius does not abate
Magma rains from the blackened skies
As men women and children all say their last goodbyes
Necropolis preserved in a blanket of ash
Mummified bodies tucked into soot
Layered in the dust, frozen in time
Laid to rest in their cinder coffins
Necropolis preserved in a blanket of ash
Necropolis preserved in a blanket of... ash!
A cemetery city, frozen in time
Once filled with life, now hidden from light
Awaiting rediscovery, long lost and forgotten
Breathing no more, it's lungs filled with cotton
Necropolis preserved in a blanket of ash
Mummified bodies tucked into soot
Layered in the dust, frozen in time
Laid to rest in their cinder coffins
Necropolis preserved in a blanket of ash
Necropolis preserved in a blanket of... ash!
