What We Made

The haunted house burned to the ground
The ghosts were freed, they danced with me
The flames softened the town
Forever changed

The whispering bells sang in the fields
I met my soul, she said let go
What the world can be my friends
We deeply know

Now when we cry it's a joyous release
Now when we sit it is just to breathe
Now when they shoot it is only to capture
The beauty of what we made

The work to rebuild was common as mud
Much to do and be undone
First a graveyard for the dead
A flower bed

Next we learned to love again
Through the pain, a tidal wave
From the heart flooded the plains
Freedom rains

Now when we cry it's a joyous release
Now when we sit it is just to breathe
Now when they shoot it is only to capture
The beauty of what we made

We tended to the monsters within
Garden weeds turned to medicine
And we held each other gently
Through the fever dreams

Now when we cry it's a joyous release
Now when we sit it is just to breathe
Now when they shoot it is only to capture
The beauty of what we made
