30 Hours

I take winter walks along
The old nameless lake
The birds don't even come by anymore
I take snowy walks right by
That old abandoned house
I try as best I can to sweep the porch

But all I hear's my own voice
In this tiny, tunnel town
The echoes are the only thing around
And all I hear's my footsteps
On the soundproof carpet floor
Wonder who has been here before

The feudal lord eats breakfast
Early every day
He'll marry that nice duchess in the June
That old oil baron takes a bath
At noontime every day
Singin' all his carefree happy tunes

And all I hear's my own voice
In this tiny, tunnel town
The echoes are the only thing around
And all I hear's my footsteps
On the soundproof carpet floor
Wonder who has been here before

Grandma says to children
Go and make me proud
I know you've got that thirty hours in ya
I say to my future
Go and make me proud
Just work until that satisfaction fills ya

And all I hear's my own voice
In this tiny, tunnel town
The echoes are the only thing around
And all I hear's my footsteps
On the soundproof carpet floor
Wonder who has been here before

They are wounded on a cliff
Dreams about to fall
Will they cry out or suffer in the silence
I am drowning in the air
Of my own downfall
I don't scream because I was compliant

But all I hear's my own voice
In this tiny, tunnel town
The echoes are the only thing around
And all I hear's my footsteps
On the soundproof carpet floor
Wonder who has been here before
