A Night in Dreamland

I had a dream that I woke up down in Dreamland
Carved clean like a carrion buffet
I washed away in rainy gutters
On a forsaken brides bouquet

I sailed the sewers on that broken promise
Until I found a better place
Another world which was built of
What you all had given up and thrown away

Down there I found the love letters no one dared to sign
I found the lost dreams of a child
I found the memory of a sunset from a man who has gone blind

But the mind pulls the heart out of Dreamland
Into the abandoned house of a snail
A dying womb without its baby
The heart of mankind has tried and failed

It's a compass with a broken needle
An empty canvas in a dream already torn
Where every rose has been buried deep down
To cover up the thorns

I found the laughter of the man who can't remember how to smile
The prayers of the boy down the well
I found the footsteps of the man who wished he'd walked another mile
And everything else that died in your mind
