Empty Chair

I lean against my table
And look at the empty chair
I know in just a few short months
My mother won't be sitting there
I only have a little time
To reach out and touch her hand
Until the angels come
And take her to the promised land

Empty chairs mean different things
To all who pass by
For me it stands for sorrow
And a soulful broken cry
For another it might bring joy
To again see a loved one's smile
But mom's empty chair will hurt
For a long and lonely while

I'm staring at the loneliness of years to come
After she's gone
When all I'll have are memories of days gone by
All I can do is cry

Daddy leans against God's table
And looks at the empty chair
He knows in just a few short months
My mother will be sitting there
He knows in just a little time
He will reach out and touch her hand
When the angels come
And take her to the promised land

Empty chairs mean different things
To all who pass by
For me it stands for sorrow
And a soulful broken cry
For another it might bring joy
To again see a loved one's smile
But mom's empty chair will hurt
For a long and lonely while

Yes, mom's empty chair will hurt
For a long and lonely while
