What, if it were You ? (Reflections of a War)

Took your portrait off the shelf the other day
Whilst the TV sang its scary news out
On the screen were blurry pictures of a war not far away
I could massive explosions, gunshot, people shout

And whilst looking at your face a strange perception wound its way
That scared me to the bones and freaked my nerves out
Cause over Your face I could see pictures all about, everywhere
Those were reflections of the war not far away

What if it were You, running from fire
What if it were You, in desperate flight
What if it were You, hiding in cellars night after night
What if it were You, escaping shrapnel
What if it were You, running from hell
What would I do, if it were You

I saw rockets flying, sporting yellow traces on the sky
Helicopters spitting death on fly-by,
I saw Houses with frightening black holes and gaps in their façade
In the ruins People, trying to evade

I saw endless lines of fugitives at borders anywhere
People, empty faces, carrying their gear
Mothers, carrying nothing but their babes in despair
All just trying to get away, from this warfare

What if it were You, running from fire
What if it were You, in desperate flight
What if it were You, hiding in cellars night after night
What if it were You, escaping shrapnel
What if it were You, running from hell
What would I do, if it were You

Who can ever justify what happens now before our eyes
Who is it to put this nightmare to an end
Who will be held responsible for Violence and genocide
Who can mend and heal a thoroughly destructed land

What if it were You, running from fire
What if it were You, in desperate flight
What if it were You, hiding in cellars night after night
What if it were You, escaping shrapnel
What if it were You, running from hell
What would I do, if it were You
What if it were You, running from hell
What would I do, if it were You
