Dance Of Zalongo

Απόψε θα 'ρθει ο Χάροντας
Να μας καλέσει στον χορό του
Ελεύθερα θα πεθάνουνε
Τα παιδιά του Ζαλόγγου
(The reaper will come tonight
To invite us to his dance
The children of Zalongo
Will die free)

On December the 12th 1803
After the siege of Souli
The village was forced to sign a treaty
To leave behind their lands was agreed
The evacuation would be peaceful
If they obeyed the decree

On December the 16th
The Souliotes formed three groups
And while marching south the third one was
Ambushed and attacked
The men were massacred
Yet around 60 women survived
Facing death they screamed

Freedom or death until our final breath
We'll sing 'til the cliffs below claim us all
We will pay the price
No matter the cost
To shed the shackles of slavery

When pride and courage conquered fear
Certain death seemed preferable to life in captivity
Determination set in as the troops drew near
These women chose to embrace death and to die free

Freedom or death until our final breath
We'll sing 'til the cliffs below claim us all
We will pay the price
No matter the cost
To shed the shackles of slavery

The brave women of Souli
With their children in hand
They decided to die free
They danced, they sang
And then they jumped down to their death

Απόψε θα χορέψουμε
Απόψε θα χορέψουμε
Απόψε θα χορέψουμε
Μια τελευταία φορά
(Tonight we'll dance one last time)

Απόψε πια χορεύουμε
Απόψε πια χορεύουμε
Απόψε πια χορεύουμε
Για τελευταία φορά
(Tonight we are dancing for the last time)

Freedom or death until our final breath
We'll sing 'til the cliffs below claim us all
We will pay the price
No matter the cost
To shed the shackles of slavery
