Myth

The teacher said "you must detach
Do not grasp or possess"
I took a flower into my hand
And carried it like it would cure me

When Spring returned hope emerged
Diffused through buried skin
Permeated that space gone dime

Why do you say we must not hope
That all expectations should go?
Just name it and let it pass
But I can't found ground in that

Within the myth there is a map
A story to which we can attach
Is that a crutch or a defense?

For meaning comes when I reach
And hold on with gritted teeth
To a son that rose when the sun went down
As the center collapsed our of which I was found

I need a place to bring myself
Where comfort comes
Because something is holding me
And fills my lungs when
There's no reason left to breathe
If I had not chosen to hope
I would not be
