Ladye Bay

You wake up rolling your bowling ball head
Been micro-dosing a feeling of dread
These days, when you relax
It's like a building's collapsed
You can't hold it all up

You wake up under a layer of dust
The calendar you've started to distrust
Says what a laugh, you are here
The second half of the year
And where have you been?

But I feel closer to young
Than I do to old and grey
And my head was full of mud
Like the sea on Ladye Bay
But your love grew like a song
And the music carried me
I was lost in what I'd lost
When the one thing that I need
Was still at my side

You wake up longing for life as before
You'll get a stick and keep poking that corpse
Now and then, just a bit
And you hope for a twitch
But it will not rise (but it will not rise)

The sun is up and your bed weighs a ton
Buried in lists of things you have not done
But you scream, from it's jaws
"Yesterday was yours, but today is mine"

But I feel closer to young
Than I do to old and grey
And my head was churning round
Like the sea on Ladye Bay
But your love grew like a tree
Where my soul so heavy leaned
I was lost in what I'd lost
When the one thing that I need
Was still at my side
So, I held on tight

The sky was like a feast
And the sun was saying grace
What a masterpiece
What a perfect day

But I feel closer to young
Than I do to old and grey
And my head was full of mud
Like the sea on Ladye Bay
But your love grew like a prayer
When I was down on my knees
I was hooked on what I'd lost
When the one thing that I need
Was still at my side
So, I held on tight
