Fifth of July

It's 7am on a Tuesday
I'm reaching for you across the rim of a glass
I can't write a real enough lyric
But, I know that it ends with the word "last"

I am a poet, I shouldn't be at a loss for words
But I've never felt sorrow this all consuming
My iced tea tastes like her

It's the season finale, the ceiling is rising above me
The floor is so hard, the tile is cold what a sickening episode

There's a hole in my driveway
I remember the sting of you turning your headlights on
They pierce through my window screens
I couldn't look until you'd already gone
I am embarrassed, I've been told I'm ugly when I cry
But, if I didn't let the tears out I would have drowned my eyes

It's the season finale, the stars are shining above me
They're brighter up state, even brighter by you
You would better be looking, too

I don't know when the next comet will come, but I hope that it's soon
I'm surrounded by impending doom
I'll watch that, or a bomb seal past the moon

It's the season finale, and the writers are Taking you from me
I know we'll be back, as the legend foretold
Cause there's no way I'm letting you go
It's the fifth of July, its raining and cold
What a miserable episode
