Tug

I'm standing like a mannequin
Staring at nothing again
When Gillian comes barking
(I know she's not hungry)
Barking
(She was just out)

"Get a toy"

She darts off and returns with the rope
And I engage
We both start growling
(I've been trying not to think too much)
Growling
(Stop looking for meaning)

Where are we going?

She pulls me to the other room
Where her sister, Basil, is sleeping
We start growling louder
(Did I peak when I was younger?)
Louder
(Do I have anything to offer?)

Basil wakes up, wagging

Though Basil is my size to the pound
And Gilly much smaller
One plays tug like a bowline
Affixed to a sail
And the other like a cracked plaster wall
Releasing a nail
So to make sure we all get along
I grab the rope in the middle
And moderate
