King for a Day

If I was king for a day
Think what the people would say
If they heard it from me that by royal decree
We're lowering taxes, for all of the classes
I'd listen and I'd take heed
Try to be what I think the people need
Be it a benevolent leader or a mean mistreater

If I was king for a day
I would let all the little children play
And I'd be sure to make haste
Cause I can't afford to waste
Even one single hour
To consolidate my power

If I was king for a day
I would gather leaders from the west and east
To convene for a spectacular feast
With a spread so pleasant
I'd serve quails' eggs and pheasant
To be enjoyed while we ponder ploys
To subjugate the peasants

Temptation of control it never changes
It's a story that's been told throughout the ages
By those who lived and died by the sword
Marched into the mire by kings and lords
A legacy of spite and subjugation
Of wretched acts far beyond redemption
Was never in the plan when it all began
But the road to hell is
Paved with good intention

They say that power corrupts
Is it true, as it seems
That absolute power corrupts absolutely?
Would it all go to my head?
Would it all go to my head?
If I was king for a day
